VENTURA — A pedestrian attempting to cross the Ventura Freeway was struck and killed late Monday, the fourth fatality on Ventura County roadways over the holiday weekend.
Authorities said the man, who appeared to be in his early 20s, ran into a southbound lane on the freeway near the Ventura Avenue offramp just before 8:30 p.m.
The man was knocked down by a Volkswagen bus. Several vehicles traveling behind the Volkswagen then drove over the man, and he was declared dead at the scene, said California Highway Patrol Sgt. Bruce Clark.
Clark said the man, who was not carrying identification, did not appear to be the driver of a disabled vehicle who was seeking assistance.
Alcohol did not appear to be a factor, Clark said.
