A team of seniors from Trabuco Hills High School has won third place in the national fall 2000 “Stocks that Rock!” contest, bringing the first win in the competition for an Orange County school, according to officials.

Under the direction of teacher Brian Cox, the three students invested 100,000 virtual dollars in the monthlong, Internet-based stock market simulation. The Trabuco Hills team realized a gain of 86,718 virtual dollars. According to Cox, they traded mostly in Internet companies. This is the second year that Trabuco Hills students have entered the contest and the first time they have won an award.

This year’s Trabuco Hills High School team members were Laura Denos, John Parker and Mark Suman.
