Painting Should Clear Up Problem

TIMES STAFF WRITER

Dear Traffic Talk,

Turning left onto Beverly Glen Boulevard from Valley Vista Boulevard in Sherman Oaks is a problem--there is a very long line at the stop sign.

The heaviest traffic time for this is during the early morning commute. What plans are there to resolve this horrific problem?

Sherman Oaks

Dear Leslie,

The city of Los Angeles plans to paint “Keep Clear” pavement markings in the intersection, which should help provide more openings for cars turning left onto Beverly Glen, said Irwin L. Chodash, East Valley District engineer at the Los Angeles city Department of Transportation.

Westbound traffic on Valley Vista has a hard time turning left onto Beverly Glen because southbound traffic backs up and blocks the intersection, he said. The “Keep Clear” markings should discourage motorists from entering the intersection when it is full of cars.

Dear Traffic Talk,

I live on Quedo Drive between Kelvin and Natoma avenues in Woodland Hills. Two years ago I heard rumors from neighbors that our street was scheduled to be repaved, but nothing ever happened.

The street is cracked, full of potholes and in need of repair. Any idea of the timeline on this?

Woodland Hills

Dear Kristen,

That stretch of Quedo is scheduled to be resurfaced sometime between June 2002 and July 2003, said Robert Reed, a spokesman at the city department of public works. The portion of Quedo between Kelvin and Serrania avenues is scheduled to be repaved sometime between June 2003 and July 2004, Reed said, but both portions will probably be repaired before July 2003.

To learn which streets have been scheduled for resurfacing, log onto the city’s Web site at https://www.lacity.org. Click on Departments, Commissions and Committees and then on Street Services Bureau.
