Symposium to Focus on Tobacco, Alcohol

A Latino coalition will host a two-day symposium at Cal State Northridge on the negative health and social effects of alcohol and tobacco on Latinos.

The California Latino Leadership United for Healthy Communities--a coalition of researchers, practitioners and Latino community and civic groups--organized the event.

According to the coalition, alcohol dependence is the top cause of disability in Los Angeles County, while smoking among Latino boys and girls ages 12 to 17 increased 52% between 1993 and 1996.
