The national tour of “Buddy . . . The Buddy Holly Story,” opened Wednesday. The show rocks the house with huge hits by Holly (“That’ll Be the Day,” “Peggy Sue,” “Maybe Baby”), Ritchie Valens (“La Bamba”) and the Big Bopper (“Chantilly Lace”) as it traces Holly’s brief but spectacular career.

Mexican pop superstar Luis Miguel has admirably resisted the temptation to join the crossover crowd, and his latest Spanish-language album has been another commercial success. But “Amarte Es Un Placer,” is one of the few Miguel albums that has failed to break new ground, so his five-night Universal Amphitheatre engagement will give him the chance to show that there’s still some vitality and direction to his musical vision.

Once an idiosyncratic offshoot of the groundbreaking Pilobolus collective, Moses Pendleton’s unfailingly creative Momix celebrates its 20th anniversary with performances of its nine-part compilation program “Momix in Orbit” in multiple Southland locations, along with the West Coast premiere of “Passion” in Glendale. Divided into 21 sections, “Passion” uses music by Peter Gabriel (from the film “The Last Temptation of Christ”) to trace the evolution of life--and the life force--in all its permutations. On a four-day visit to three Southern California cities, the touring Moscow Chamber Orchestra, conducted by Constantine Orbelian, plays today and Friday at the newly reopened Madrid Theatre in Canoga Park, and Saturday at the refurbished Warner Grand Theatre in San Pedro, concluding with a free concert at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art. Programs and soloists change at each performance; Saturday, the soloist is pianist Carol Rosenberger and her vehicle the Chamber Concerto by Frank Bridge.
