The Ventura Chamber Music Festival will host a benefit concert Friday featuring virtuosic Canadian violinist Corey Cerovsek at the Church of Religious Science. Cerovsek, 27, has performed internationally with many orchestras and for this concert will be joined by his sister, pianist Katja Cerovsek. Proceeds will benefit the annual festival.

Vintage Autos

The Ronald Reagan Presidential Library will host “The Reagan Retrospective,” a vintage car show, Sunday. On display throughout the grounds will be more than 50 classic cars ranging from a 1932 Ford Roadster with a rumble seat to a 1956 Corvette. The event will celebrate Reagan’s 89th birthday and the unveiling of the Reagan Library license plate.

Piano Recital

Cal Lutheran University music professor Dorothy Schechter and guests will present a recital Sunday at the university’s Preus-Brandt Forum. The program will premiere works by Boris Shekhter, an exiled Russian composer who lived from 1900 to 1963. Schechter is researching the life and works of the composer, who was her late husband’s first cousin, with hopes of creating an interest in his music in the United States. The program will include works by Scarlatti, Schubert and Grieg. Guest musicians: pianist Eric Kinsley and violinist Melissa Phelps-Beckstead.

Theater

Gold Coast Plays will open Stephen Sondheim’s acclaimed musical “Sweeney Todd--The Demon Barber of Fleet Street” on Wednesday at Thousand Oaks Civic Arts Plaza’s Scherr Forum. The musical is based on Christopher Bond’s 1973 play, which was in turn inspired by an old British myth.
