The Community Services Commission on Wednesday urged the City Council to support a state bond measure on the March 7 ballot that would provide $2.1 billion to protect and enhance California’s parklands. If approved, Proposition 12--the Safe Neighborhood Parks, Clean Water, Clean Air and Coastal Protection Bond Act of 2000--would funnel $2.1 billion from a general obligation bond into state and local programs. The bond would be repaid in 20 to 25 years by state revenues from the general fund. Irvine would be eligible for up to $1.7 million under two programs. The council will consider its position on the measure at its meeting Tuesday.
