First American Gets New Division Chief

* Barry Sando has been named president of First American Financial Corp.’s Mortgage Information Service Group, a new unit created as part of the Santa Ana company’s move to restructure its real estate information and services operations. The mortgage information service group includes the company’s First American Credco, First American Nationwide Documents and Mortgage Administration units. Sando had been president of the mortgage administration group.

* Christopher D. Tower and Joe B. Johnson have joined the accounting and consulting firm of BDO Seidman LLP in Costa Mesa as audit partners. Tower has 17 years of experience in consulting and assurance services, and Johnson has 16 years of experience. In addition, George R. Anderson, with 20 years of experience, joined the firm as a tax partner.

* David Edwards has been appointed to the newly created position of chief operating officer of SBN.com in Newport Beach, an Internet Yellow Pages publisher. Edwards, formerly vice president, business development, is a co-founder and director of the company.

* Arif Shakeel has been appointed executive vice president and general manager of Western Digital Corp.’s hard drive solutions line of business. He had been senior vice president of operations. Shakeel joined Irvine-based Western Digital in 1985 as a product manager. He has been vice president of marketing; vice president of business development, Far East sales; and vice president of materials for Asia.

* Norman J. Hurley has been named to manage Santa Ana-based Safeco Select Insurance Services’ regional tracking services center in Nashville. He succeeds Stephen Smalley, who left the company. Hurley joined Safeco in 1997 as customer service supervisor.

* Ed Brower and Glen Terbeek have joined the board of directors of Sagence Systems Inc. in Newport Beach. Brower recently retired as chairman, president and chief executive of Pacific Scientific. Terbeek recently retired from his position as worldwide managing partner of Anderson Consulting’s Food and Consumer Packaged Goods Industry Program. Mohanbir S. Sawhney has been named to the company’s strategic advisory council. He heads the Technology and E-Commerce group at the Kellogg Graduate School of Management at Northwestern University.

* Michael A. Stugrin has been appointed vice president of marketing for Videoscape.net Inc. in Lake Forest, and Lisa Espinoza Weimer has joined the company as director of strategic marketing. Stugrin previously held senior management positions at Unisys Corp., Concurrent Computer Corp. and Pinkerton’s. He also founded and was managing director of power-by-words.com, a marketing and public relations consultancy. Weimer is co-founder and former executive vice president of the Net’s Best Inc., and has also held marketing management positions with FOX Sports and Time Warner Cable.

* Harold Burlingame has joined the board of directors of e-rehab in San Juan Capistrano. He is executive vice president of merger and joint venture integration at AT&T.;

* Fran Steinberg and Cindy Moore have joined Bank of Orange County as vice presidents at the Fullerton office. Steinberg had been vice president at Security First Bank. Moore began her banking career in 1973.

* G. Stephen Donohue is the new president of the South Coast Apartment Assn. He is president and chief operating officer of Western National Property Management in Irvine.

* Solveig Whittle is the new vice president, marketing for FutureLink Corp. in Irvine. She had been at Microsoft Corp. for eight years, and has held product development and marketing positions at AT&T; Bell Laboratories. Jamie Beckerich has been named director, strategic business unit. He joined FutureLink from EDS, where he was offering manager in the Information Services. Group. Beckerich was also regional IT manager for Vinson & Elkins LLP and systems designer for Intecom Inc.
