Janice J. Gray; Retired College Administrator

Janice Jay Gray, a retired Moorpark College administrator, died Sunday at Los Robles Hospital Medical Center in Thousand Oaks. She was 59.

She was born Jan. 4, 1941, in St. Joseph, Mo., where she grew up and went to school. She graduated from Central High School in St. Joseph and went on to graduate from Guard’s Business College.

About 1967, she moved to California and began working for Rockwell International, first in Anaheim and later in Seal Beach.

In 1974, she married Jim Gray, and the couple made Anaheim their home until the mid-1980s, when they moved to Moorpark with their daughter, Carla.

She worked at Moorpark College as an administrator in the athletic department for about seven years before retiring in 1992.

Gray’s hobbies included boating and camping. The couple often went to Parker, Ariz., and enjoyed vacationing at the Colorado River.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by her mother, Willadean Carlson of St. Joseph.

She was preceded in death by her daughter Carla five years ago.

Funeral services are scheduled at 12:30 p.m. Friday at Pierce Bros. Valley Oaks Chapel in Westlake Village, with the Rev. Steve Day officiating. Burial will follow at Valley Oaks Memorial Park.
