City Council members on Tuesday approved a West Whittier Boulevard housing development project that may limit the city’s future redevelopment efforts, one city official said.
On a 4-1 vote, with Councilman John C. Holmberg opposed, the council approved a plan by commercial landowner Joe Cabeza to build an eight-unit condominium complex in the 900 block.
“I only have one objection to this development,” Holmberg said. “This plan requires rezoning land previously designated for commercial use into residential. This could seriously limit our commercial development options 10 or 15 years from now.”
