More Homes Near LAX to Get Soundproofed

Share

The Los Angeles Board of Airport Commissioners on Tuesday authorized soundproofing work for additional homes near Los Angeles International Airport.

A contract awarded to P.B.C. of El Segundo calls for up to $575,000 for 22 housing units in 17 buildings in South Los Angeles.

The award is part of an airport noise mitigation program that pays for homes to be outfitted with such sound-muffling features as dual-paned windows, solid-core doors and attic insulation.

About 9,000 residences in the Los Angeles city communities of Westchester, Playa del Rey and South Los Angeles, where airport noise levels reach 65 decibels or higher, are eligible for the program. Additional information about the program is available through the LAX Residential Soundproofing Bureau, (323) 759-4915.
