Cadet Recalls About 2 Million Electric Heaters
Cadet Manufacturing Co. is recalling almost 2 million in-wall electric heaters that can overheat or catch fire, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission said. The heaters, produced by the Vancouver, Wash.-based firm under the brands Cadet and Encore, were distributed predominantly in California, Idaho, Montana, Washington and Oregon. The CPSC is aware of more than 300 reports that the company’s heaters have smoked, sparked, emitted flames, caught fire or ejected burning particles or molten materials, the commission said. The incidents have allegedly caused three deaths and two serious injuries. The recall is part of the resolution of a lawsuit brought by the commission against the company last year. Cadet will offer consumers replacement heaters at a reduced cost.
