Museum Sells Bricks to Raise Money

Share

Local residents can leave their mark on the community at the Stagecoach Inn Museum--for a price.

The Conejo Valley Historical Society, the nonprofit organization that runs the museum, is selling 4-inch by 8-inch bricks for $50 each. The bricks will be used for a walkway in the museum’s Heritage Rose Garden. Each brick may be inscribed with a name or a message of three lines, with 14 words per line.

The fund-raiser started as a way to thank people who have volunteered at the museum, but it quickly expanded, said Sandy Hildebrandt, museum director and historical society president.

“We have so many community members who ask us how to remember someone,” Hildebrandt said. “People who really love the community gravitate toward the museum. They like to have things preserved and ask what they can do.”

The walkway will replace the decomposed granite pathway that now covers the rose garden. The bricks will cover a 75-foot-long by 5-foot-wide path.

“I would like to start the walkway in June to make sure the people who have bought bricks have something to look at,” she said.

This isn’t the first fund-raiser that has allowed community members to put their names on property at the museum. After the museum was rebuilt in 1976, following a 1970 fire, residents were able to purchase a room in the museum. The names of the “owners” are engraved on a plaque on top of the doorway in the rooms.
