The city is one of the first in the county in which the district attorney’s office has enacted a policy making felony filings more efficient.

Instead of requiring police officers to go to the district attorney’s office to have the case filed in court, a deputy district attorney will come to the police station, pick up the case and fax it to the court.

The district attorney’s office has also assigned more experienced attorneys to the felony filing unit, and has restricted their duties to reviewing cases, not taking cases to trial.
