At least 17 people, including nine children, died when two buses, one carrying religious pilgrims, crashed in central Mexico, police said. Thirteen people were hospitalized with injuries after the crash early Sunday outside Salamanca in the state of Guanajuato, about 150 miles northwest of Mexico City, an official with the Federal Highway Police said. The Guanajuato state government said 19 people were killed and 28 hurt. The police official said that both drivers died, but the government news agency Notimex cited Raul Navarro, the state transportation director, as saying that the driver of one of the buses was drunk and fled after the accident.
