Edward B. Witten; Retired Accounting Chief

Edward B. Witten, a retired accounting supervisor, died Tuesday at Community Memorial Hospital in Ventura. He was 82.

Witten was born April 22, 1917, in Oklahoma City, where he grew up and attended school.

When Witten was about 20, he moved to Ventura and had been a county resident since.

During World War II, Witten served with the Army Air Force in the South Pacific at Guadalcanal, Australia and in New Guinea.

For 30 years, he worked for Tidewater Oil and Getty Oil companies until he retired as a district accounting supervisor.

Witten was a lifetime member of both the American Legion Post No. 339 of Ventura and the Disabled American Veterans of Ventura.

He enjoyed playing golf until he became ill a couple of years ago. He also was a member of the Sacred Heart Church of Ventura.

Witten is survived by his wife of 25 years, Barbara, of Ventura, daughters Olivia Peters of Oak View and Linda Jenkins of Grants Pass, Ore.; sister Beula Hampton of Oklahoma City; six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m. today at the Joseph Reardon Funeral Home in Ventura. A funeral Mass is scheduled at 10 a.m. on Saturday at Sacred Heart Church. Burial will follow at Ivy Lawn Memorial Park in Ventura.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Joseph Reardon Funeral Home.
