More Rain Expected to Hit Today

After a glorious day of winter sunshine, Orange County braced late Thursday for more rain.

A storm system heading this way from the Gulf of Alaska could drop as much as a fourth of an inch of rain here today, said Josh Bemus, a meteorologist for WeatherData Inc., which provides forecasts for The Times.

“It won’t be anything like what you guys have seen all week,” Bemus said. “It’s just real weak, maybe enough to kick up a couple of light showers.”

Skies should start clearing by afternoon, he said, with increasingly cloudy conditions again through Saturday. Then on Sunday, Bemis said, another, stronger storm should roll in, bringing stiff breezes and a good chance of more showers. “It will cause things to get a lot cooler again,” he said.

For those heading to local mountains for weekend skiing, Bemis advised planning a departure for late today or early Saturday. Nearby slopes could receive 8 to 16 inches of snow over the weekend, he said.
