Fresno State Beats No. 12 Tulsa

Courtney Alexander scored 25 points, including a go-ahead jump shot with 30 seconds remaining, and Fresno State’s zone defense slowed No. 12 Tulsa in a 73-72 Western Athletic Conference victory Thursday night at Tulsa, Okla.

Eric Coley’s tip at the buzzer missed for the Golden Hurricane (25-3, 10-2), which lost, 75-73, last month to the Bulldogs (18-9, 8-3).

No. 1 Stanford 89, Washington State 52--Casey Jacobsen made seven three-point baskets and scored 23 points and the Cardinal (23-1, 12-1 in the Pacific 10) shot 82% from the field in the second half against the Cougars (5-18, 0-14) at Pullman, Wash.

Temple 75, Saint Bonaventure 58--Quincy Wadley scored 17 points and Lynn Greer added 14 as the Owls (21-4, 12-1 in the Atlantic 10) defeated the Bonnies (16-8, 8-5) for their 20th consecutive home victory at Philadelphia.

No. 21 Purdue 78, Michigan 75--Brian Cardinal scored 20 points and the Boilermakers (20-7, 11-3 in the Big Ten) held off a charge by the Wolverines (13-11, 4-9) at Ann Arbor. Michigan again played without freshman Jamal Crawford, who was suspended for eight more games by the NCAA earlier in the day after it was discovered he had tried to make himself eligible for the NBA draft while in high school.

In other games: Sean Lampley scored 28 points and California (15-10, 6-7 in the Pac-10) held off Washington (9-17, 4-10), 75-64, at Seattle. . . . Central Michigan’s David Webber, the brother of Sacramento King forward Chris Webber, scored 51 points, but the Chippewas (5-20, 2-14 in the Mid-American) lost to Ball State, 91-80, at Mount Pleasant, Mich. The Cardinals (18-8, 10-7) shot 58.9% from the field.

In other news: Jim Harrick Jr, a former assistant coach at Rhode Island, is under investigation by state police over allegations he defrauded the school of at least $900. Harrick is suspected of collecting receipts when he dined out, parked and bought gas in Rhode Island, then submitted them for reimbursement as expenses from trips he took with the team. He is now an assistant at Loyola, Ill. . . . DePaul Coach Pat Kennedy has agreed to a contract extension that takes him into 2008.
