A 19-year-old Oxnard man was arrested Friday and jailed on suspicion of committing three armed robberies and a carjacking over the last month, authorities said.

Christopher Pena was driving in Oxnard when he was pulled over and taken into custody, said Oxnard Police Sgt. Lee Wilcox.

Authorities believe Pena is one of two men who committed the crimes. The second man being sought is also suspected in two additional armed robberies and a kidnapping, all of which occurred over the last four weeks.

Pena was being held on suspicion of robbing a small market in El Rio, a gas station and a hair salon in Oxnard and committing a carjacking at a convenience store in Oxnard.

In the three robberies, an armed gunman fired a shot into the ceiling, ordered employees and customers to the floor and stole money from the victims or the business, police said.

Pena is not believed to be the man who fired the weapon, Wilcox said.

The suspected shooter is a prison parolee. Wilcox did not release the suspect’s name but said authorities believe he may have fled the area.
