A Fullerton man was arrested Monday night after authorities discovered what appeared to be a methamphetamine laboratory in his garage.

Mark Anthony Niehouse, 44, was arrested and booked at the Orange County Jail on suspicion of manufacturing a controlled substance, possession of chemicals used to manufacture a controlled substance and possession of a firearm. His bail was set at $100,000. Niehouse is scheduled to be arraigned later this week.

Acting on a tip, officers from the county’s Proactive Methamphetamine Task Force conducted a search of the home in the 1200 block of El Mirador and found chemicals including sodium hydroxide, methanol and phenylpropanolamine, a precursor chemical used to make amphetamine, police said.

Police were unable to comment on the quantity of the chemicals found at the residence, but classified Niehouse’s supply as “small.”
