Padilla Introduces Motion to Assess Fire Hydrants

LOS ANGELES — A motion introduced before the City Council on Tuesday would direct the Los Angeles Fire Department to report on the effectiveness of fire hydrants throughout the city and its mobile home parks.
The motion, introduced by Councilman Alex Padilla, would require the Fire Department to make sure all fire hydrants are operating within the Los Angeles city limits. If approved next Tuesday, the motion will direct the Fire Department to make the assessment and turn in a report to the city, Padilla said.
Padilla said he became concerned after a fire killed three family members in Compton on Dec. 19 at the El Rancho Mobile Home Park. Residents said they heard screams from inside the trailer while firefighters discovered hydrants in the park were not connected to a water source.
