UC Santa Barbara 73, Loyola Marymount 63--The Lions (1-11) set a school record with their 11th consecutive loss, falling to the Gauchos (3-7) before 597 at Gersten Pavilion in a battle of teams that had not beaten a Division I opponent until this game.

Loyola Marymount fell behind by as many as 15 points in the first half, committing 15 turnovers, but rallied in the second half to take a four-point lead after Stanley Thorne stole a fastbreak pass and made consecutive three-pointers for a 54-50 lead with nine minutes left.

“It felt good, like we had some life left in us,” Thorne said. “I just wish we could have pulled it out.”

But Santa Barbara took advantage of turnovers and some poor shot selection by the Lions to take control down the stretch.

Erick Ashe led Santa Barbara with 18 points. J.J. Sola scored 11 points for the Lions.
