YORBA LINDA

City Hall will be closed Monday in observance of Yorba Linda’s own holiday: Richard Nixon’s birthday Jan. 9. Mayor John Gullixson said council members 10 years ago thought that declaring Nixon’s birthday as an official city holiday would be an appropriate way to honor the former president and the city’s relationship with the Richard Nixon Library & Birthplace. “Having the library here has been a positive experience for the city,” he said. “They are good neighbors and we always get nice visitors. We are often visited by world leaders and statesmen. The library has brought renown to our community.”

The Nixon library will commemorate the occasion with free admission Sunday, and an afternoon ceremony with military honors and a brass band concert. City Hall will take Monday off in honor of Nixon’s 87th birthday anniversary.
