Angel Fan Waits, Dodger Fan Stunned

Share

Uh, Mr. Tavares, sir? Could you please do all us Angel fans (yes, all five of us) a favor and awaken your new general manager, Rip Van Winkle, uh, I’m sorry, Bill Stoneman, out of his winter hibernation and remind him of all your summer sound bites about a complete overhaul of the team. Remember your “Who says you can’t trade 25 guys” quote?

I know Mr. Stoneman is new to the GM business, but you might want to let him know that the winter is the time that teams do their retooling. Somehow I don’t think the signing of aging middle reliever Greg Cadaret for the third time (you’ve released him twice) has the phones ringing off the hook in your very quiet season-ticket sales department.

The Dodgers hire Jack Clark as a hitting instructor?

Why not hire all former opponents who helped end Dodger seasons of the past? Joe Morgan (’82 Giants) to work with hitters? Maybe Rollie Fingers or a 1974 Oakland A’s teammate can help our young bullpen. Reggie Jackson (1974 A’s and ‘77-78 Yankees) can help our developing star Adrian Beltre work on his power swing.

I guess all that’s missing is Fox selling the team to an owner with a winning tradition . . . like George Steinbrenner.
