CRA Project Board Election

Re “Resolve for a New Year,” Valley Edition Editorials, Jan 2.
Instead of focusing on how voters in the recent northeast Valley CRA [Community Redevelopment Agency] Project Area Committee elections got to the polling place, The Times might remind its readers how the voters cast their ballots--and why.
For too long, the communities of Pacoima, Arleta, Sylmar and Sun Valley have endured the rhetoric of those who rally ‘round the anti-redevelopment flag. But in this election, an outpouring of local residents, business leaders and activists saw the CRA as one of several tools to bring residential and commercial revitalization to our neighborhoods.
As I continue to work with the community in coordination with city agencies to bring positive changes to the northeast Valley, we’re moving in the right direction on the “learning curve” of redevelopment.
