William A. Briggs; Former Corporate Executive

William A. Briggs died Dec. 31 at his home in Ventura. He was 82.

Briggs was born Feb. 19, 1917, in New York. He studied history at college in New York and had been a Ventura resident since 1970.

He retired in 1977 as executive vice president of Carnegie Corp. in Glendale.

Briggs was an avid reader with interests in history, economics and politics. His family described him as a compassionate man.

Briggs is survived by his wife, Mae Briggs; a son, Robert Briggs; a brother, Joseph Briggs; a sister, Rita Briggs; three grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Briggs’ name to a person’s favorite charity. Briggs was particularly interested in the San Buenaventura Friends of the Library and Project Understanding.

A private celebration of Briggs’ life will be held from 2 to 5 p.m. Jan. 16.
