A motorist was killed Monday when his car rear-ended a Caltrans truck on the northbound Hollywood (101) Freeway in Hollywood, authorities said.

Paramedics arrived at the scene just north of Hollywood Boulevard at 10:34 a.m., where the man, in his mid-20s, was pronounced dead, said California Highway Patrol Officer Lou Aviles.

Authorities withheld his name until relatives could be notified.

The truck driver was not injured.

Just minutes later--less than 100 feet south of the fatal crash--Hermosa Beach actor Max Wright, best known for his role as the father on the NBC sitcom “Alf,” was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence after rear-ending a vehicle, authorities said.

A CHP spokesman said the arrest came after Wright failed a field sobriety test. Authorities believe the first accident caused traffic to slow suddenly, contributing to Wright’s collision.

No one was injured in the second crash. Wright was taken to the Parker Center jail. Bail was set at $7,500.
