HUNTINGTON BEACH
A special committee from the Huntington Beach City School District will meet tonight to draft a final recommendation on three unused district sites.
The committee will examine the LeBard, Burke and Gisler sites to determine whether to recommend they be categorized as surplus. District sites must be declared surplus before they can be sold.
Some board members have advocated the sale of one or more of the sites to raise money for school repairs.
Tonight the committee will make its final recommendation before a public hearing on the issue, tentatively set for Jan. 26.
Community members have voiced their concern about selling the sites, saying it might hurt the district if enrollment increases in the future.
