Rookie Kaberle Getting Restless

Share

The idea was to give him some rest, because this is all new to Fran Kaberle, but now he’s rested.

And he’s still resting.

Kaberle, a rookie defenseman, played in the Kings’ first 37 games, not scoring but earning nine assists.

Kaberle has been scratched from the last four games and faces possible time at Long Beach to sharpen his game.

“I hope this is going to help me,” he said Tuesday, trying to put a positive spin on his time off the ice. “A couple of games ago, I felt a bit tired. The traveling is so different. I was used to traveling 10 minutes to practice and [short distances] to games. Now it’s 30-40 minutes [down the San Diego Freeway] to practice.”

And whereas most of the 90 or so games a year he played in the Czech Republic and Sweden were in close proximity to each other, he’s back and forth across the continent for NHL games.

It might explain why he has two assists in his last 23 games.

King winger Luc Robitaille received several awards before Tuesday’s game against Ottawa, commemorating his 1,000th NHL game last week at St. Louis.

Robitaille was given a crystal trophy by the league, a plaque by the Kings and two motorcycles by his teammates. The Senators gave him a limited-edition picture titled “Above Hawksoille,” by Canadian artist Ken Danby.
