The San Fernando Valley celebrates its historical legacy with the 4th Sesquicentennial Celebration of the Treaty of Cahuenga. The authentic fiesta reenacts the signing of the 1847 Campo de Cahuenga Treaty, which ended the Mexican-American War in California and paved the way for California and the Western states to join the Union. The festive event will feature historic dance performances, a memorial wreath dedication, authentically dressed actors reenacting the treaty signing and refreshments. It takes place at Fremont-Pico Park at Campo de Cahuenga in North Hollywood.

The Concord Ensemble, an award-winning male vocal sextet based in Bloomington, Ind., sings a program of Renaissance and Baroque music in its first Southern California appearance, in Malibu. The group’s program is titled “The Victory of Santiago: Voices of Renaissance Spain.”

UCLA Film and Television Archive opens its year 2000 Kids’ Flicks series with two of beloved actor-comedian Danny Kaye’s most delightful films: “Hans Christian Andersen,” in which Kaye plays the title role of the Danish writer of fairy stories, and “The Court Jester,” a satire on the swashbuckler genre. Kaye plays a jester turned jouster, Basil Rathbone is his nemesis and Glynis Johns and Angela Lansbury are the damsels in distress.
