Indictment of Rapper Combs Expected Today

Share

Rap tycoon Sean “Puffy” Combs is expected to be indicted today on felony weapons charges stemming from a Dec. 27 shooting at a New York nightclub, sources said.

This is the second brush with the law in less than a year for Combs, who, in addition to being a top-selling rapper (he records as “Puff Daddy”), is a noted producer and chairman of the Bad Boy Entertainment record label, which generated nearly $130 million last year for the Bertelsmann Music Group, the Germany-based entertainment conglomerate. If convicted, Combs faces up to 15 years in prison.

The move follows the grand jury indictment last week of Jamal “Shyne” Barrow, a rapper signed to Combs’ label, on three felony counts of attempted murder. According to police, Barrow opened fire inside the club, seriously wounding three patrons after someone got into an argument with Combs, who also allegedly brandished a weapon.

Combs’ bodyguard, Anthony “Wolf” Jones, is also expected to be indicted today for criminal possession of a weapon recovered from the vehicle in which Combs and his crew fled the club, sources said.
