Valley Busway

Re “Valley Busway to Subway Is Being Studied,” Jan. 11.

[Los Angeles County Supervisor] Zev Yaroslavsky states: “This is not rocket science . . . all we have to do is rip out the tracks and pave it . . . . It’s the only option that any of us are going to live long enough to see.”

No, Zev, all we need to do is fix the existing tracks and get light rail up and running quickly. After watching city street crews dink around for over a year repairing a fallen chunk of Foothill Boulevard at Wentworth Avenue, I don’t think any of us will live long enough to see a paved busway.

When I was growing up, freight trains rolled down the Chandler corridor regularly. For there not to be a Metrolink line running there already is a testament to Yaroslavsky’s shortsightedness, stubbornness, power and just general dislike of trains.

Ever ride the clean, quiet, highly efficient Metrolink? Ever ride a filthy, graffiti-infested, slow, lane-clogging, unreliable MTA bus?
