An Orange County Superior Court judge on Friday denied City Manager Arthur C. Simonian’s request to postpone his deposition by the city for 60 days because of health concerns.

Judge H. Warren Siegel said statements issued by Simonian’s doctor were inconsistent because they indicated that Simonian was confined to his home, but stated that he went to Cedar Sinai Hospital in Los Angeles for treatment.

Siegel ordered Simonian to give his deposition Feb. 3 but told the city to address Simonian’s health concerns by breaking up the interview session. He ordered that the deposition take place at Simonian’s Yorba Linda home in one-hour segments with 15-minute breaks. He also said the city should arrange to have a medical practitioner available in case Simonian experiences any problems during the deposition.

The longtime city manager was scheduled to answer questions Jan. 5 in the city’s lawsuit against him. The city is seeking as much as $300,000 from the city manager, claiming he gave himself unauthorized bonuses totaling that amount.
