Diedrich Coffee Inc. is focusing on the home front again.

The Irvine-based coffee retailer hadn’t opened a new store in Orange County in more than two years as it concentrated on signing development deals to add 1,200 to 1,500 new coffeehouses nationwide over the next five to seven years.

But the company quietly opened a new store in Costa Mesa last Saturday and plans to open new outlets later this year in Corona del Mar, Huntington Beach and the South Coast Metro area of Costa Mesa.

To officially mark the opening of the new Costa Mesa store at Baker and Fairview streets, chain founder Martin Diedrich will preside over a daylong party Saturday that will include free coffee tastings.

There are 29 Diedrich locations in Orange County, seven of which are coffee carts.
