NEWPORT BEACH
The 5-year-old library had its best year ever in 1999 and is going strong into 2000, city officials and trustees said. City Librarian LaDonna Kienitz said the evidence is in the number of people using the library, the types of programs being offered and the diversity of books available. For this year, the library will focus on encouraging young people to read, thanks to $50,000 in grants to help achieve that goal. Information: (949) 717-3800.
