City OKs Payment Over Sewage Spill

Share

The Los Angeles City Council voted Tuesday to pay $117,500 to settle a lawsuit by an insurance company over a sewage spill in a residential area of Sherman Oaks.

The settlement will pay for damage caused by a sewer backup at a residence in the 14600 block of Sutton Street. The lawsuit was filed against the city by Federal Insurance Co. Representatives of the city attorney’s office refused to comment on the case.

The payment comes a week after the city reported payouts to settle lawsuits rose 28% to $60.5 million in 1999 compared with the year before.
