Glitter and Glam of the Globes; Prizes for Broadcast Journalism

The Hollywood Foreign Press Assn.’s Golden Globe Awards are the big event of the weekend with such films as “The Talented Mr. Ripley,” “The Insider” and “American Beauty” leading the nominations. But Hollywood won’t be the only one taking home prizes, with journalists also in the spotlight.

Jeff Greenfield, the co-anchor of CNN’s “The World Today,” hosts the 58th annual “Alfred I. du Pont/Columbia University Awards,” which recognize the best in broadcast journalism, tonight at 8 on KVCR and 10 on KCET.

E! offers a six-hour retrospective of previous Golden Globe shows on “2000 Golden Globe Awards Countdown,” Sunday at noon. Following at 6 p.m., Joan and Melissa Rivers are back for the “2000 Golden Globe Awards Pre-Show.” Dick Clark and Nancy O’Dell hostthe “Golden Globe Arrivals,” at 7 p.m. on NBC. Finally, NBC presents “The Golden Globes,” at 8 p.m., a highlight of which will be the presentation of the Cecil B. DeMille Award to Barbra Streisand for her “outstanding contribution to the entertainment field.”

Court TV kicks off “Hollywood & Crime,” Friday at 4 p.m. The new series looks at celebrities’ legal problems.

Jennifer Sky, Gina Torres and Victoria Pratt star in “Cleopatra 2525,” a new action-adventure from the producers of “Hercules: The Legendary Journeys,” Saturday at 3 p.m. on KTLA. Following at 3:30 p.m. is “Jack of All Trades,” a swashbuckler from the same creators. In this half-hour show, Bruce Campbell plays an American spy in the East Indies at the turn of the 19th century.

“The E! True Hollywood Story” profiles the troubled life of actress-model Jennifer O’Neill, Sunday at 9 p.m. on E!

Movies

Michael Pagan and Robert Townshend star in the Disney Channel family adventure “Up, Up and Away,” Saturday at 7:30 and 8:50 p.m. Pagan plays a teen who will get special powers to stop evil when he turns 14.
