College Marks 75th Anniversary
Ventura College officially launched its 75th anniversary celebration Wednesday with the raising of a commemorative flag.
The hoisting of the specially designed flag by the college president, Larry Calderon, and the president of the student body, Antonio Murillo, is the first in a series of planned events.
The theme of the yearlong celebration is “Generations of Learning,” based on the many generations of students who have attended the school, including Calderon.
During each month of the spring and fall semesters, the college will commemorate the different decades of the 20th century with special exhibits and performances.
Next Wednesday the college is set to host a birthday party featuring a 75-foot-wide cake and live entertainment. The public is invited to the event.
“Ventura College is really a family portrait of the generations who have come to the college for an education,” said Calderon. “The college has grown up with the community, and the community has grown up with the college.”
