The city gave contractors the go-ahead to continue a landscape renovation in a local condominium community last week despite residents’ opposition.

Dozens of Quail Creek residents asked the City Council this month to stop the tree-cutting, which had already claimed about 650 trees.

“Basically, we determined that with some minor modifications, the plans met the city’s standards for approval,” said Michael Thiele, community development director for the city. The city temporarily put the project on hold last week until the contractor’s plans could be changed and approved by city staff and a city consultant.

Landscape architect David Rolfe said only about 80 more trees will be removed in order to correct the deteriorating landscape.
