Even as a group of city leaders evaluate plans for the proposed multimillion-dollar Gate 12 project, a grass-roots committee is questioning the need for the project.

The committee has gathered nearly 2,000 signatures on a petition to halt the Gate 12 project, which would consist of a $9-million multipurpose building and a $7-million refurbishment to Clubhouse Two.

The group, calling itself the Reform Committee, contends that a December study of the plan wasn’t professionally analyzed and doesn’t fit the needs of everyone at Leisure World, said John Lathrop, founder of the Reform Committee.
