A request to relax the city’s ban on parking recreational vehicles in front of homes has been met with widespread public opposition, officials said.

More than 60 residents have signed petitions or written letters condemning any changes to Brea’s current laws banning trailers and boats from being parked in frontyards or driveways. The city even received a letter from one resident, a code enforcement officer for the south central portion of Los Angeles, who cited abandoned trailers as one reason for that area’s decline.

The Planning Commission will vote tonight on whether to recommend that the city change its policy on RV parking. As the code reads now, residents are limited to parking their boats or trailers in their side yard or garage.
