Once she understood the 10,000 pages of the county’s environmental report on the proposed El Toro airport, Councilwoman Ann M. Snider concluded that there are serious safety concerns for pilots, passengers and those on the ground.
According to county studies, 97% of the landings would cross over the city. As a result, city officials have to be involved in the fight against the airport, Snider said. Snider is not alone in her opinions about El Toro, and many of those who share her feeling will be at a meeting Wednesday to discuss alternative plans for the former Marine Air base.
Mayor Bert Hack and Bob Ring, president of the Golden Rain Foundation that oversees amenities for Leisure World, will be on hand, along with Supervisor Tom Wilson.
Wednesday’s meeting, from 2 to 4 p.m. will be in Clubhouse 2. The public is welcome to attend.
