Girl Killed in Anaheim Apartment Blaze

A 9-year-old girl died Monday night in a blaze at an Anaheim apartment building, authorities said.

The three-alarm fire, which started about 8:20 p.m. in the apartment where the girl lived, quickly spread to three other units of the Grand Resort Apartments on South Brookhurst Avenue, authorities said. As many as 30 units may have been damaged, said Bruce Jacobson, a spokesman for the Anaheim Fire Department.

The child, who was not identified, was found dead in the bathtub, investigators said. Two other young children were rescued from a third-floor balcony, and a 4-year-old originally thought to have died was later found safe outside.

“We’re not sure how he made it out,” Jacobson said. “Perhaps someone pulled him out, but he did make it out.”

Firefighters extinguished the blaze in about hour. The cause of the fire and extent of damage are under investigation, Jacobson said.
