A generation gap between the City Council and local students widened Tuesday as council members debated the merits of an advisory youth council.

Council members capped hours of deliberation by approving the formation of the Youth Board--in a very different form, however, than the one that students had proposed.

The dozens of Dana Hills High School students at the meeting burst into applause when the council finally approved the board, 4 to 1.

“You think there is someone up here who doesn’t want you involved, but that is not true,” said Councilwoman Ruby L. Netzley, who voted against forming the panel. “It’s a matter of figuring out how we do it and what we do.”
