Pac-10 Mulls a Tournament
The Pacific 10 Conference is discussing holding postseason basketball tournaments for men and women beginning in 2002, Commissioner Tom Hansen said Wednesday. A subcommittee is expected to offer a specific tournament proposal to conference presidents in June.
The men held a postseason tournament, which was poorly attended, from 1987 to 1990; the women have never had a postseason event.
“It’s going to be discussed further at the Feb. 4-5 Pac-10 meeting in San Francisco, but we won’t have a specific proposal to present to the presidents until our June Newport Beach meeting,” Hansen said.
Postseason tournaments were proposed in 1997 but failed to win approval.
