Worker Arrested in Company Thefts

A maintenance man at a Camarillo-based electronics company was arrested on suspicion of stealing several thousand dollars’ worth of equipment from the business, authorities said Thursday.

Michael Harrington, 38, was taken into custody at his Camarillo home Tuesday after a monthlong investigation into thefts at Technicolor Inc., which processes videotapes, compact discs and digital video discs.

Between Dec. 15 and Jan. 18, company officials filed four police reports alleging that two computers, a hard drive tower and a vacuum cleaner had been stolen, said Ventura County Sheriff’s Senior Deputy Jim Aguirre.

Harrington was targeted after a surveillance camera allegedly captured him leaving the business with a new computer, Aguirre said.

When deputies searched Harrington’s house, they found several pieces of stolen company property, including a cellular telephone, a hand-held radio, a VCR and television, a fire extinguisher and a metal grinder. “They found stuff they didn’t even know was missing,” Aguirre said.

Authorities allege Harrington was stealing to support a drug habit. Harrington has been released from jail on bail. He is scheduled for arraignment Tuesday.
