USC’s Tiffany Elmore grabbed an offensive rebound and scored at the buzzer to give the Trojans a 74-73 upset victory over Oregon on Thursday night in a Pacific 10 Conference game before 534 at the Sports Arena.
Elmore rebounded a missed 13-footer by Tashara Carter.
The Trojans (8-8, 3-3) prevailed despite blowing a 10-point lead with 7:26 remaining. The Ducks (13-5, 4-2), taking advantage of fouls and turnovers, took their first lead, 66-65, with 2:58 left.
After the lead changed hands a couple of times, Oregon regained the advantage at 73-72 on a free throw by Shaquala Williams with 12 seconds left before Elmore’s heroics.
Carter led the Trojans with 20 points. Elmore added 13.
Williams led five Oregon players in double-figure scoring with 21 points.
“This team has needed a breakthrough victory like that,” USC Coach Chris Gobrecht said. “We worked hard the entire game and I knew that as long as we were in it, we had a chance.”
USC led, 40-35, at halftime despite Oregon’s 66.7% shooting (14 of 21). USC made 15 of 29 shots in the half.
