Five members of an Oxnard gang were arrested Sunday after allegedly forcing their way into a motel room in a robbery attempt.

Police said the group, including three juveniles, knocked on the door of a guest’s room at the Motel 6 in the 3000 block of Johnson Drive shortly before 7:30 a.m.

When the door was opened, the intruders pushed their way into the room.

The robbers tried to rip a gold chain from the neck of one of the occupants, but he and his four friends fought back, hitting one of his assailants on the head with a beer bottle, said Ventura Police Sgt. Larry White.

The intruders fled, leaving two Oxnard residents who had attended a party in the room with minor injuries. They were identified as Salvador Hernandez, 20, and Hugo Hernandez, 19.

Police, who at the time were patrolling the motel parking lot because of previous gang-related disturbances, saw several young men run from the room and pursued them on foot.

Juan Gonzales, 20, and Oscar Bedola, 18, were arrested on suspicion of robbery and burglary. The three juveniles, whose names were not released, were arrested on the same charges.
