Garcetti-Cooley Debate July 11
The two contenders for Los Angeles County district attorney will debate issues ranging from the three-strikes law to hate crimes at a July 11 program organized by the San Fernando Valley Bar Assn.
Incumbent Dist. Atty. Gil Garcetti and his challenger, Deputy Dist. Atty. Steve Cooley, also will be asked their positions on the Rampart crisis, gang violence, domestic violence and spousal-support issues, among other topics. The audience will have an opportunity to question the candidates.
“Many voters are still undecided about this important race,” San Fernando Valley Bar Assn. President Mark Blackman said in a statement. “Some credit Garcetti for L.A.’s declining crime rate. Others blame his administration for the erosion of public confidence in the local justice system.”
The program, co-sponsored by the Valley Industry and Commerce Assn. and the Woodland Hills and Encino chambers of commerce, will start with a noon lunch followed by a one-hour debate at 12:30 p.m. at Sportsmen’s Lodge, 12833 Ventura Blvd., Studio City.
Tickets are $25 in advance or $35 at the door. For reservations, call (818) 227-0490, Ext. 105.
