City officials are poised to start trying out ways to curb the speeding traffic on Oriente Drive.
The Traffic Commission has been working with city engineers for more than a year on methods to discourage motorists from speeding on the residential street. Some options proposed include a cul-de-sac, traffic islands to block the road, or speed humps.
The City Council is expected to consider a recommendation next month to prohibit left turns from southbound Lakeview Avenue on to Oriente Drive between the hours of 4 and 7 p.m.
Traffic commissioners have recommended that if the left-turn ban fails, the city should try slowing traffic lights at Avocado Circle and Ohio Street during those same hours to stall traffic on Oriente Drive heading out from the neighborhood.
